How Kazukee came into being

Kazukee has been designed and created by maths teachers and cousins, Philip Hooper and Caroline Williams. We have always seen the benefit of using playing cards to create fun and engaging activities to learn and practise numeracy.

However, we found the numbers and design of playing cards to be limiting. So we developed Kazukee to include cards numbered 0 and 11 to 20 together with our bespoke, pictorial dice pattern number system.

Phil

Since 1991, I have tutored many children from age 5 to degree level across London. I have also taught maths, economics and business studies in schools and colleges.

I enjoy inspiring confidence and a passion for numeracy in my students. I have found that this develops an enduring love of mathematics from an early age.

I have also written and published a number of maths books for GCSE, A level, Scottish Standard level and SAT.

I have also helped many students gain places in American universities through helping them increase their scores in the mathematics section of the ACT and SAT tests.

Caroline

I have taught maths since 1997 in a non-selective school in London. I have also specialised in working with children with a variety of special educational needs and disabilities, alongside teaching mainstream classes.

Having had the opportunity to work on a dyscalculia project, I developed an interest in this area and in providing materials to support children in their learning.

As a parent of two children, one with specific learning difficulties, I was fascinated to observe how differently my children learned. I played numeracy games with them to support their learning and spark a lifelong love of maths.
